Alcon partnered with Groove Jones to design a memorable, Interactive experience for their inaugural New Technology Showcase. The event brought doctors and Alcon leadership to the historic T&P Station in Fort Worth for an elevated, conversation-driven reception for ophthalmologists visiting Alcon for the weekend event. Groove Jones deployed our FitCheck™ Magic Mirror system, themed specifically for the opening evening event.
Rather than running a standard photo or video booth, the Alcon team wanted something innovative to align with their Technology Showcase program. So they licensed our FitCheck™ Magic Mirror platform and the Groove Jones team designed a custom Golden Age period-costume interactive video experience built to match the Art Deco aesthetic of the T&P Station location.
The T&P Station was built by the Texas & Pacific Railway in 1931 and the building is celebrated as Fort Worth’s premier example of Zigzag Moderne / Art Deco architecture. Perfect for a themed event.
Engaging with an Interactive Magic Mirror
The Magic Mirror allows guests to step up to an oversized 4K display, select an outfit, and instantly see themselves transformed into a 1920s Great Gatsby wardrobe styling complete with curated jewelry and period detail. It’s a technology that allows the guest to step into the past.
The technology instantly transforms the guest magically. The clothing moves naturally with the body in real time, tracking pose and gesture so the illusion held up whether guests stood still, posed, or laughed with the doctor next to them.
After selecting your outfit, the system gives you time to pose as it records a video of you in your new threads.
Within seconds, the mirror generated a real time wardrobe swap, giving guests the chance to see themselves in period pieces. Regardless of what they are wearing in real life, the technology can swap what the guest is wearing and display a real-time animated image of the individual or multiple guests at the same time. Guests could pose by themselves or with groups.
At the end, a unique QR Code was displayed, allowing a guest to scan and download their bespoke personalized video.
The platform combines the video capture of the guests and produces and animated short with music that they can download and share on social platforms.
Designing the Experience
The Groove Jones team designed multiple outfits for the client to choose from during the design process. The idea was to put guests into 1920’s style wardrobes, transforming them into the theme for the evening. The FitCheck GenVFX platform has the capabilities to try on unlimited varieties.
In the end, the team decided between to outfits that were designed for either a male or female focused experience.
The technology allows one or more guests to try on outfits. Guests can also interact with the outfit on, opening up the jacket or putting their hands in the pocket, the system tracks the user’s movements and actions and displays them on the screen magically. If the guest is holding something like a drink, it includes that in the video as well.
The art department created animated graphics that matched the theme of the event for both the interactive display and the video elements.
A Night to Remember
The activation gave eye specialists and Alcon staff a playful, low-pressure way to engage with technology in a room full of peers. It also generated something every guest could take with them: a short, shareable video clip of their transformation, captured directly from the mirror and delivered for download. Every interaction became its own social moment, and every share extended the night beyond the event.
