How HSBC is Using Apple Vision Pro to Visualize Quantum Computing

TwitterFacebook

HSBC partnered with Groove Jones, alongside IBM, to create an Apple Vision Pro experience exploring how the potential of quantum computing could be communicated through spatial storytelling and interactive visualization.

Designed to demonstrate HSBC and IBM’s research into quantum-enhanced machine learning for financial markets, the experience was created not as a technical tutorial, but as a visually intuitive introduction to an emerging and highly complex field.

Visualizing Complex Data and Processes

Groove Jones designed and developed a native Apple Vision Pro application combining cinematic animation, spatial audio, interactive elements, and high-fidelity 3D animations.

The experience opens with an abstract cloud of floating market data before a trading interface materializes in front of the viewer, placing them inside a stylized financial markets scenario. As additional requests begin populating the environment, the viewer is shown how patterns can be seen from certain angles, illustrating how predictive modelling can support trading decisions.

From there, the visual language shifts to introduce the differences between classical and quantum computing through a series of abstract representations designed to make unfamiliar concepts easier to grasp. This transition leads viewers toward IBM’s quantum computing hardware, culminating inside a detailed model of IBM Quantum System Two.

The environment then returns to the field of market data. This time, however, the same underlying information expands outward into a three-dimensional space around the viewer, illustrating how quantum techniques can generate different representations of complex data and reveal patterns more clearly.

The demonstration concludes by highlighting proof-of-concept research results showing up to a 34% improvement in predictive accuracy against commonly used methods, before allowing viewers to directly interact with the IBM Quantum System Two model using Vision Pro hand-tracking controls.

Users can rotate the system, explore internal components, and move through the environment in real time.

Building the Spatial Experience

Developed natively for Apple Vision Pro, the experience combined CGI, animation, visual effects, audio design, and interactive elements to create a visually rich and engaging demonstration. Groove Jones also delivered voiceover production and a custom spatial audio mix designed specifically for the platform.

Launched at the 2026 HSBC Global Investment Summit in Hong Kong and to an audience of over 5,000 delegates, more than 200 guests experienced the demonstration using Apple Vision Pro headsets over the 3-day event. The Groove Jones Orchestrator Platform proved instrumental in managing device calibration and session handover between demonstrations, enabling the experience to scale efficiently across the event.

The result was a high-fidelity spatial computing experience that translated a highly technical research topic into a compelling visual narrative, demonstrating how emerging platforms like Apple Vision Pro can help make complex ideas more accessible and engaging.
