Angelo State University’s Mobile STEM Innovation Lab is now fully operational, and Groove Jones is proud to have engineered the interactive technology that powers it. The lab, which arrived on campus last fall, is now touring West Texas to bring hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math experiences directly to schools that often have the least access to cutting-edge tools.

A Rolling Classroom Built for Immersive Learning
Funded by a U.S. Department of Education grant, the mobile lab was constructed by Ohio-based Farber Specialty Vehicles and outfitted with lab software and equipment developed by Groove Jones. Our team designed the interactive experiences that turn a converted vehicle into a fully equipped innovation classroom, including:
- Virtual Reality (VR) experiences that place students inside otherwise inaccessible environments
- Augmented Reality (AR) applications that layer digital information onto the physical world
- Cybersecurity modules that introduce students to digital safety and systems thinking
- Drone technology for hands-on flight and engineering exercises
- Robotics stations that teach programming and mechanical design fundamentals
The lab also carries physical equipment such as microscopes and telescopes, along with a STEM Career Pathways module that connects classroom learning to real-world career paths.
Supporting ASU’s STEM Outreach Program
The mobile lab is a core part of ASU’s STEM Outreach Program within the College of Science and Engineering. Its goal is to ignite curiosity, build workforce skills, and close the technology gap for elementary and middle school students across the region.
Tony Garcia, ASU’s K-12 outreach coordinator, said the team is “excited to take the lab on the road and welcome visitors to campus” now that the lab is fully tested and ready for the fall calendar. Schools throughout West Texas can request a campus tour or an on-site visit through ASU’s reservation system, and demand has been strong enough that early booking is recommended.
Beyond scheduled school visits, the lab will also appear at public ASU events like Night at the Museum and various Lab Nights, and it will support academic recruiting, faculty outreach, and community partnerships tied to the university’s broader “Leading the Charge” capital campaign.
Why This Project Matters for Groove Jones
This partnership reflects the kind of work Groove Jones does best: building immersive VR, AR, and interactive technology that turns complex STEM concepts into experiences students can see, touch, and understand. Projects like ASU’s Mobile STEM Innovation Lab show how immersive technology can extend a university’s reach far beyond its campus and put emerging tools directly into the hands of the next generation of engineers, technologists, and problem solvers.
Groove Jones designs and builds custom VR, AR, and interactive experiences for education, enterprise, and entertainment clients nationwide. If your organization is exploring how immersive technology can support training, outreach, or public engagement, our team can help you build something similarly hands-on and impactful.
