Groove Jones partnered with Advantage Unified Solutions to create a mobile WebAR game experience for Ferrero and Keebler Cookies that brought the magic of the movies—and the sweetness of cookies—into fans’ homes.
The campaign supports the launch of a limited-edition Keebler Superman Strong Berry Berry Fudge Stripes Cookies for the upcoming Superman Movie. The experience transforms cookies and packages into a superhero-themed augmented reality experience where fans can play and enter a contest for the chance to win tickets to the movie.
In-Store Retail Game
The goal was to turn a simple cookie purchase into an immersive moment of fun. By scanning a QR code printed on specially marked packs, customers launch a browser-based AR experience via the Open for Magic website—no app download required. Once activated, the user’s mobile camera unlocks a game environment that blends their physical space with virtual Keebler Superman Strong Berry Berry Fudge Stripes Cookies hidden throughout.
Interactive Gameplay with Superhero Powers
The gameplay experience invites users to channel superhero powers to “rescue” cookies from a series of dramatic scenarios. Players rescue a drink from a glass of milk by quickly drinking the milk, one that is covered in papers by blowing, and a package that is stuck in a grocery bag using swipes to unpack the bag.
Creative and Technical Development with Retail Tie-In
Groove Jones led the design and development of the WebAR experience, which incorporated Superman-inspired powers, such as blowing into your mobile phone’s microphone to rescue one of the cookies. The team created custom animations, interactive elements, UI/UX design, and sound design.
A customized API was integrated to enable retail engagement, allowing customers to find a store carrying the limited-edition cookies near them, further connecting the brand to retail conversions, including turn-by-turn directions to a local store.
